Light as defined by Merriam Webster is “Something that makes vision possible”, and with all the distractions and discouragements that cloud this world, this is something that we sorely need in this world enveloped by darkness. A world where countless people have been stumbling and wandering in what seems to be a darkness that never seems to end. This is the reason why The Almighty Father has given his only Son to this world. To be the beacon of hope in the darkest of night. The light that Jesus radiates is described by John as “True light that gives light to everyone in the world”. This description is found in the book of John chapter 1:9, and it is the only one that is strong enough to pierce the darkness of sin in the world. As followers of Christ, we are also called into the path of light for the world to see the road to the salvation that has been made available by Christ. And the more we stay on this path, the more our lives glow with the light of Jesus.

Even in our present day and age, the darkness of this world is as real as it was back then. We see it in the news, on social media and it is evident even in the lives of people who are close to us. And the reality that the light of Jesus can still shine in that darkness is as sure as the breaking of the dawn. This is a reality we face and therefore it is important for us to radiate the glow of Christ in our lives. Going back to its definition, if light allows vision to be possible, the brighter it shines, the more visible Christ will be to other people. This is the importance of our glow, for other people who have grown so accustomed to the dark to finally see that glimmer of hope and may start to shine with the glow of Christ for others to see.

Walking in the path of light means that we are to follow the Lord’s teachings and adopt his attitudes by “walking in the light as He is in the light”, as stated in 1 John 1:17. This is the glow of Christ that becomes evident in our lives. The more we are filled with the light of Christ, the faster the darkness will flee from us. This is the Lord’s way of giving us his saving grace that shields us from the grip of spiritual darkness.

John also gives us an important reminder in Chapter 14 verse 6 where he took account when Jesus stated that “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Looking once again at the definition of light, we can find that this light opens the spiritual eyes of man to see that Jesus is the only way to salvation; a fact that has been clouded by the dark of the night. The glow we give off when we reflect Christ’s shows the way for others who are lost to find the saving grace that He has made ready for all of mankind.

This statement also serves as a reminder that the light from our glow is not our own. Instead it is instead a reflection of the light that comes from Christ. No matter how hard we try, our strength, our glow does not come from us, and this is the way it should be. By acknowledging this fact, the tighter we cling to the source of all our strength which is Christ. And the tighter we cling to the Lord, the more determined we will be to walk the path of light that Jesus has set for us. His light, is the source of our glow and like what Zechariah mentioned in Chapter 4 verse 6, it is not by might nor by power that we are capable of accomplishing things, but it is only by the Spirit of the Lord Almighty.
